Musical Background

Pete studied bassoon at the Royal College of Music from 1985-90 with Kerry Camden and Geoff Gambold. He went on to follow a busy freelance career including holding the bassoonPeter-Harrison-Photo chairs in several West End shows including The Hunting of the Snark (Prince Edward Theatre), Crazy for You (Prince Edward Theatre), Martin Guerre (Prince Edward Theatre), Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Dominion Theatre) and Lautrec (Shaftesbury Theatre). He was also the Assistant Conductor on the above shows.

He has previously taught for Waltham Forest, Kent Music School, the British Army (Pirbright), Wiltshire County, East Sussex and The Purcell School. He is currently the bassoon teacher for the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department where he is also the assistant conductor to the Symphony Orchestra.

Pete is a regular guest conductor with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Past BSO concerts include Nyman – An Anthology (Bristol, Poole), Dorset Wassail (Poole), Queen – A Symphonic Rock Spectacular (many venues), Live and Let Die – The Music of James Bond (Bournemouth, Wilton House), Movie Classics (Plymouth and Bournemouth), One Enchanted Evening – the Rodgers & Hammerstein Concert (Weymouth, Southampton and Bournemouth) and The Cole Porter Celebration Concert (Southampton and Bournemouth). He has also worked as the Musical Supervisor for Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert (Portchester Castle) Chess in Concert (BIC) and Les Miserables in Concert (Powderham Castle and Broadlands House).

Pete is also involved with the orchestral management of West End and touring shows, including Shrek (Drury Lane), Billy Elliot (Victoria Palace), Dirty Dancing (Aldwych), Love Story (Duchess), End of the Rainbow (Trafalgar Studios), Million Dollar Quartet (Noel Coward), Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Palace), Sister Act (Palladium), Love Story (Duchess), Hairspray (Shaftesbury), Spring Awakening (Novello) and Guys & Dolls (Piccadilly). Tours include Rocky Horror Show, Legally Blonde, High School Musical (1 & 2) and Spamalot.
